History The surf spot in Redondo Beach California was dubbed “Burnout” by Surfers after a raging fire consumed the Hollywood Riviera Beach Club on the night of Sept. 25, 1958. A fire at 3:30 a.m. gutted the entire resort and left almost nothing behind, and all that remains are the double white stucco stairs leading down to the sand.
